UCT has set the following target in its Environmental Sustainability Strategy published online in 2020:

To become a Net Zero emissions campus by 2050 or sooner (for Scope 1 and 2)

In UCT's latest Carbon Footprint Report of 2024 that is published online, it shows UCT has reduced its scope 1 and 2 emissions at the end of 2024 by 17% since 2019, which is considered UCT's baseline year.
